A practical issue: landscape and the identity of geography. - This article aims at focusing on the way in which the geographical conception of landscape has outlined the conception of man. Between human geography of the sixties and contemporary cultural geography, man's identity, with regard to landscape, has been strictly linked to the notions of action and practice. Such a description of man leads back to the origins of the geographical conception of landscape, that is to Erdkunders texts, on which - as claimed here - Aristotle's ethical philosophy exefted much influence, even through Strabo's works. On the basis of these considerations, this article argues that geographical science has developed, over several stages of its history a peculiar practical reason. Such a practical reason can still represent a feature distinguishing the identity of contempora4r geography in comparison with the other human sciences, such as semiotics, speaking of the relationship between man and landscape in terms of practices and subjectivity.
Une affaire pratique: le paysage et l'identité de la géographie. - L'intention de cet article est d'envisager la manière dont la conception géographique de paysage a modelé la conception d'homme. Entre la géographie humaine des années soixante et la géographie culturelle contemporaine, l'identité de l'homme, par rapport au paysage, est strictement liée aux notions d'action et de pratique. Mais une telle description de l'homme ramène aux origines de la conception géographique de paysage, c'est-à-dire aux ouwages des Erdkunder, sur lesquels - on soutient ici - la philosophie éthique d'Aristote a exercé une grande influence, mème par l'intermédiaire de l'oeuvre de Strabon. En se fondant sur ces considérations, on soutient ici que la discipline géographique, par plusieurs étapes de son histoire, a développé une raison pratique qui lui est propre. C'est exactement cette raison pratique qui est encore en mesure de représenter un élément distinctif de l'identité de la géographie contemporaine par rapport aux autres sciences humaines, comme la sémiotique, qui envisagent le rapport entre I'homme et le paysage en termes de pratiques et de subjectivité.
