The dynamisms of human spaces in a globalizing and hierarchical world.
-The article focuses on how the political, economic and social spaces of human activity
have been reconfigured in recent decades, and in particular on an interpretation of the
world-system, in which the transnational processes and economic and political hierarchies
of globalization are not regarded as incompatible. The first section, after outlining
my conception of globalization, considered here as a recent phenomenon, attempts to
challenge the idea of a flat ontology, as this has recently been discussed within the field
of human geography. In the second section the aim is to critically, scrutinize some essential
geographical categories such as the "mobile region" and various kinds of "hub"
and "network" representations, in order to produce an overarching scalar model of our
world-system. Consequently, I end by proposing a structural and multi-level model,
more abstract and flexible than other existing tripartite representations, which synthesizes
the various mechanisms of production of space.
Le dynamisme des espaces humains dans un monde globalisé et hiérarchique.
-L'article analyse la reconfiguration des espaces d'action humaine dans les derniers
dix ans, en se focalisant, en particulier, sur la forme assumée par l'actuel système global,
dans lequel se combinent les processus transnationaux et les hiérarchies politiques et
économiques. Après avoir défini les termes du débat sur la globalisation, ici considérée
comme un phénomène récent, l'article présente une critique à I'idée d'une "ontologie
plate", récemment émergée dans les études géographiques et dans les sciences sociales
en général. Cette analyse critique est à la base de la tentative de définir, dans la deuxième
partie de l'article, des catégories de relevance géographique, telles que la "région mobile"
et différents typologies de "hub" et "network", et de produire un modèle surdéterminé de
notre système mondiale. Par conséquent nous proposons un modèle structural et multi
niveaux, plus abstrait et flexible que autres représentations existantes triniveaux, qui
synthétise les différents mécanismes de la production d'espace.
