The image of the world economic system. Reflections on geographical metaphors. - Geographical metaphors such as Center-Periphery or First-Second Third World are widely used to describe the word economic system. This paper discusses the role of these metaphors in geography and presents on the one hand an attempt at classification based on the debates producing them, and on the other hand a reflection on the problem of definition of borders between geographical concepts and categories.
 

L'image du système économique mondial. Réflexions sur les métaphores géographiques. - Les métaphores géographiques comme Centre-Périphérie ou Premier-Deuxième-Tiers Monde sont largement utilisées pour décrire le système économique mondial. Ce travail discute le rôle de ces métaphores en géographie et présente, d'une part, un effort de classement basé sur les débats qui les ont produites et, d'autre part, une réflexion sur la définition de frontières entre concepts et catégories géographiques.
