Mapuche, Culture and Tourism. - Tourist development, if based on the principle of participatory planning, can be a valid tool to improve the living conditions of the people involved. In this note we will examine a peculiar case since the promoters of the tourist project are Patagonia natives: the Mapuche of the Puel Community. The project originates from the will and action of the members of the Community and therefore it is different from the innumerable top-down ethnic tourism projects. We will then illustrate how the tourist activity, besides increasing monetary income and job opportunities, can become an effective means to strengthen the ethnic territorial identity, to control the territory and, in this case, to give larger visibility to the native question
Mapuche, culture et tourisme. - Le développement touristique, si basé sur le principe de la planification participative, peut être un moyen valide pour améliorer les conditions de vie des populations impliquées. Dans cette note on analyse un cas particulier puisque les promoteurs du projet touristique sont des indigènes de la Patagonie: les Mapuches de la communauté Puel. Le projet est né de la volonté et de l'action des membres de la communauté et donc il est différent des autres projets de tourisme ethnique top-down. On illustrera par la suite comme l'activité touristique non seulement augmente les recettes monétaires et les possibilités de travail, mais peut aussi devenir un moyen efficace pour consolider l'identité ethnique territoriale, le domain sur le territoire et, dans ce cas, accomplir un procès qui donne visibilité à la question indigène.
