On some studies on Portugal and about a Portuguese book on the Mediterranean. Mention is made of a study by V.Floridi on the wine region of the Minho and the trade in Port wine, and of a book by D.Stanislawski on the culture and economy of wine in Portugal. The author then goes on to discuss the first volume of a collection of geographical writings by the portuguese scholar Orlando Ribeiro, emphasizing the interest of certain assertions with regard to the nature of geographical studies, which according to Ribeiro do not need, in order to be scientific, either to follow quantitative methods or to be specifically concerned with applications. A book by the same author on the Mediterranean countries as a whole is then mentioned.
