La geografia italiana tra “vecchia” e “nuova” terza missione: una riflessione in prospettiva

ABSTRACT:
L’articolo mette a confronto il dibattito sul rinnovamento della geografia confluito nel Convegno di Varese del 1980 con la più recente riflessione sulla “terza missione” nelle Università europee (2012). Le due istanze di rinnovamento vengono messe a confronto a partire da alcuni temi centrali: il tema dell’utilità sociale, dell’engagement, della valutazione dell’attività universitaria, della scala della ricerca, dell’accessibilità dei prodotti scientifici. Al termine di questo confronto, emergono analogie e differenze, anticipazioni e nuove spinte in avanti, che rispondono alle domande di due diversi momenti sociali, invitando a dare valore in maniera rinnovata al sapere critico e operativo proposto negli anni Settanta da Giuseppe Dematteis.
The Italian Geography between “old” and “new” third mission: a perspective. – The paper introduces a comparison between the request of renewal of the Italian geography carried out in the Italian Conference of Varese (1980) and the most recent international debate about “third mission” in the European Universities (2012). The two instances of change are compared taking into account five central topics: the social usefullness, the engagement, the evaluation of “third mission” activities, the scale of researches, the accessibility of scientific products. At the end of this analysis, similarities and differences emerged, previews and thrusts forward responding to different social periods and questions, inviting today to update the goals of the “critical and operational knowledge” suggested by Giuseppe Dematteis in the Seventies.
La géographie italienne entre “ancienne” et “nouvealle” troisième mission: une réflexion en perspective. – L’article propose une comparaison entre le débat sur le renouvellement de la géographie italienne qui a eu lieu au Congrès de Varese en 1980 avec la plus récente réflexion internationale à propos de “troisième mission” dans les Universités europeennes (2012). Les deux instances de changement sont comparés à partir de cinq thèmes centraux: l’utilité sociale, l’engagement, l’évaluation des activités de troisième mission, l’echelle de la recherche, l’accessibilité des produits scientifiques. À la fin de cette analyse, similitudes et différences ont émergé, aussi que des aperçus et des poussées en avant, en réponse à deux différentes situations sociales, qui ont l’effet d’inviter à renouveler la “géographie critique et opérationnelle” suggérée par Giuseppe Dematteis dans les années soixante-dix.
